CAFCASS has published its monthly data which shows a long term increase in the number of children and young people they are working with.

CAFCASS has published its monthly data which shows a long term increase in the number of children and young people they are working with from 127,670 children in 2017/18 to 143,649 in 2022/23. An increase of 12.4%

CAFACSS is an organisation that advises the family courts about the welfare of children and what is in their best interests.  CAFCASS are frequently involved in providing their opinion to the court, where one parent has made an application to the court for a child arrangements order. Around two thirds of the children CAFCASS work with each year are involved in private law proceedings.

In September 2023 alone, CAFCASS received 4310 new children cases.

The figures are stark and reflect the considerable pressure on the family courts and those working with children and families.
