Coroner's inquest rules accidental death in case of girl kicked by horse

A coroner's inquest in Norwich has recorded a verdict of accidental death in the case of an eleven-year-old girl who was kicked by a horse.

The schoolgirl, a keen rider, was preparing her pony for a show when another horse lashed out at her. She suffered severe head and spinal injury; although she was rushed to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, she died 12 hours later.

William Armstrong, the coroner for Norwich, was reported by Horse and Hound to have extended sympathy to the bereaved family, and to have said that the girl was almost certain to have lost consciousness instantly the accident occurred.

The coroner's inquest was held last Friday.
