Nobody enjoys the prospect of appearing in court; be it for a minor motoring charge or a serious criminal charge. The environment of a courtroom or a police cell can be intimidating. You need to know where you stand from the beginning. You need to know that your legal representation is fit for the task.
We provide advice from the earliest police investigations through to subsequent proceedings. For example, we have developed an emergency rota system that ensures that clients have access to representation 24 hours a day.
JMW Solicitors is recognised by the Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession and The Legal 500 directories as one of the top criminal defence firms. The award of an LSC Franchise contract, and our appointment to the LSC Serious Fraud Panel strengthens our credentials.
Peter Grogan, Partner and Department Head, is acknowledged as being a leading criminal solicitor in the North West. Our remit extends beyond regional boundaries and we can provide assistance on a nationwide basis.

Know Where You Stand
To ensure the fair and proper treatment of suspects at Police Stations, the law specifically provides that persons detained by the police have the right to legal representation free of charge. We have developed an emergency rota system that ensures that clients have representation 24 hours a day.
Proper representation at The Magistrates Court
All prosecutions begin at the Magistrates Court and we offer representation throughout the country. Community Service Funding will normally be available to cover the cost of representation depending upon the nature of the charge and financial circumstances of the individual client. We complete all necessary funding application forms and we provide unparalleled advocacy services at courts all over the country. We deal with bail applications, guilty pleas and trials.
A fair hearing at The Crown Court
The most serious charges ultimately are heard at the Crown Court - be it be for trial or sentence. In some less serious cases the client also has a right to insist upon a trial before a judge and jury at the Crown Court. Our representatives appear in the Crown Courts on a daily basis, often assisted by Barristers. We deal with all the preparation work and make sure that all pertinent facts are put before the Court. Our reputation is such that we are now instructed on a regular basis in serious and general fraud cases.
