JMW Advise Brookhouse Group over supermarket development

The commercial property team at JMW Solicitors LLP have acted for The Brookhouse Group of Companies in connection with a supermarket scheme at Parsonage Retail Park, Leigh.

The Brookhouse Group have secured a deal with Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd for a new supermarket excess of 120,000 square feet to be built at the proposed extension to Parsonage Retail Park, Leigh. The development will involve the building of a new link road from Atherleigh Way and the demolition of the existing Sainsbury’s store. Work at the site is already under way and Sainsbury’s will trade from a temporary store during part of the construction process. The aim is for the new Sainsbury’s store to open in time for Christmas 2012.

JMW has been instrumental in the original acquisition of the site, concluding legal agreements with Sainsbury’s and securing the requisite highway and planning agreements.

Peter Chape, a Partner in JMW’s Commercial Property Department commented:

“It has been a pleasure to act for Brookhouse in adding to their already substantial retail investment in Leigh. The deal was a complicated affair involving not only the proposed demolition and relocation of an existing Sainsbury’s food store and petrol filling station but also major highway infrastructure works, which required lengthy negotiations with Wigan Borough Council. The people of Leigh can now look forward to shopping at a fantastic new supermarket before the end of 2012.”
