Chris is a Partner in the Motoring Team. He specialises solely in motoring defence work.
Chris has extensive experience of mounting technical defences for the whole array of criminal motoring allegations and has personally been involved in establishing and exploiting new ‘loopholes’ in the law, replacing those being closed by the authorities. Most notably, Chris was involved in successfully defending a case which resulted in the development of new defence tactics, leading to the re-birth of the ‘mobile telephone defence’.
Chris is a highly skilled advocate and regularly represents clients in Magistrates’ Courts nationwide. He also prepares appeals to both the Crown Court and the High Court and has acted in cases which have led to significant changes to how Courts now deal with motoring matters.
Chris has a high level of technical knowledge and an enviable success rate. He also has longstanding relationships with many of the leading experts in fields such as Forensic Toxicology, Psychiatry, Respiratory Medicine, Forensic Medicine and Electronic Engineering.
Described by previous clients as “very calming in difficult situations”, Chris is renowned for making his clients feel at ease from the point of contact until the conclusion of their case.

Chris acted in a number of of notable cases, including:
* Highly technical drink drive matter involving a challenge to a specific breath testing instrument; the Intoximeter EC/IR.
* A leading authority on adjournments in the Magistrates’ Court;
* Appeal which reaffirmed the position that a warning of prosecution must be given in all cases where a person is required to provide an evidential specimen for analysis;
* A leading authority in respect of applications for costs from Central Funds establishing that the Court has limited discretion when deciding whether to disallow costs from Central Funds and that this discretion can only be exercised where exceptional circumstances exist.
* Successful Abuse of Process application leading to a stay of proceedings following evidence of collusion between the Police and senior members of the Crown Prosecution Service.
