What is a Compromise Agreement?

A compromise agreement is used when the relationship between an employer and an employee has broken down irretrievably and it has been decided the best way to resolve the situation is to bring the employment to an end.

The document is a legally binding agreement, which must be signed by both parties, for an out-of-court settlement, offering compensation to the employee for agreeing to a set of conditions. It includes details of the settlement, assurances given by the employer and employee and a reference.
