Claims against “hit and run” drivers
If you have been the victim of an accident caused by a hit and run driver driver, call us at JMW on 0800 054 6570 and we will guide you and assist you through the process of claiming compensation.
In circumstances where it is simply impossible to know who the at fault motorist is, then we will submit your claim to The Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) to ensure they compensate you. Using our expertise, we negotiate with the MIB to secure compensation for innocent victims of accidents caused by hit and run, or untraced, drivers. The procedure for claiming is slightly different to other claims, and particular rules apply as to what can be recovered by way of compensation. We can discuss that with you depending on the particular circumstances of your case and clarify exactly where you would stand.
It is crucial that you report any accident involving an untraced motorist to the Police immediately, and keep a record of who it was reported to and when. It is vital that the Police are given the best possible opportunity to track the offender if your claim is to succeed, and failure to notify the Police can be fatal to a compensation claim. Try to find as many witnesses to the accident as you can in order to assist.
The MIB also compensates those with claims against uninsured drivers, where an at fault driver is actually traced but it is found that they did not actually have valid car insurance in place when the accident happened.
