Sarah has worked hard to become a Solicitor, having studied law part time while holding down a full time job. She joined JMW in 2008 as a paralegal in the Clinical Negligence team, where she worked on a variety of high value cases, including cerebral palsy cases. In 2009, Sarah spent time with the Personal Injury team as a trainee and discovered a passion for the department and the role it plays in assisting the public and achieving a fair settlement for those who have been injured through no fault of their own.
When she doesn’t have her nose to the grindstone, Sarah plays saxophone for a number of swing bands and big bands. She also enjoys aerobics and walking.
Why did you join JMW?
I joined JMW because I really liked the firm’s ethos. I very much feel that we are a friendly, approachable firm that’s really going places.

- Securing settlement for a passenger involved in a road traffic accident, in a car being pursued by another car. This rather dangerous state of affairs caused the driver of the car the client was in to crash into the central reservation, causing the client to lose three teeth and require false ones. We were able to ensure that the client had a large enough settlement that he doesn’t have to be concerned with dental treatment, or the replacement of these teeth, for the rest of his life, ensuring peace of mind in what could potentially have been an injury that would have caused our client to be self-conscious for the rest of his life.
- Ensuring that a client who was wheelchair-bound as the result of severe MS was able to be compensated following an accident on a ferry. The client was thrown from her wheelchair while on the ferry, badly twisting her ankle. This left her bedbound for six weeks. Our client was happy to with a modest settlement, on the proviso that we contacted the ferry company on her behalf and ensured that proper staff training was in place for ‘next time’, so that any incidents of a similar nature could be prevented.
- Settling a road traffic accident case for a client when the defendant’s insurers offered low compensation on the basis that there wasn’t a lot of damage to the car, despite the client having been stretchered off the scene! We worked hard to ensure that the client received a fair settlement, despite a problematic defendant.

I chose to make Personal Injury my legal specialism after spending time in the department and discovering a passion for how this team is able to assist the public. Individuals are entitled to justice when someone else’s actions have caused them harm and I think helping them find that justice is a worthy job indeed.
