No laughing matter: JMW's £20k fundraiser ensures charity's North West project fully funded for a year

Leading Manchester law firm JMW Solicitors LLP have raised just over £20,000 for the Child Brain Injury Trust, fully funding its work in the North West for a year.

The money, which JMW raised through the staging of a black tie comedy dinner in September, has ensured that the charity can pay for a full-time Child and Family Support Coordinator to work in the region for another year.

The Child and Family Support Coordinator plays a key role in the work the Child Brain Injury Trust undertakes.  The role involves making sure that families whose children have suffered an acquired brain injury (ABI) are supported with any needs they may have or issues they face, from the point of contact with the Child Brain Injury Trust.

Lisa Turan, the Child Brain Injury Trust’s chief executive officer, commented: “What a wonderful achievement, and thank you to everyone who has been involved in the organisation and execution of the evening, especially at JMW Solicitors.  I am extremely grateful to you all for not only putting on such a brilliant evening, but for also helping our charity as it really doesn’t get a great deal of support like this.

“Their effort ensures our work in the North West can continue fully funded for another year, and this is a remarkable situation to be in.  The Child and Family Support Coordinator role is both challenging, as the needs of each brain injured child and family can vary quite dramatically, and absolutely vital to ensure that families are supported, and their needs met.”

“The North West is one of our busiest areas, and we have been faced with increasing demands on the service from families who need our help.  We quite literally couldn’t continue to provide the help families need without support from JMW and other generous donors.”

JMW Solicitors were able to raise a total of £20,617.05 at the event, which was held at the Victoria and Albert Manchester Marriott in Manchester this September.

Andrew Lilley, partner in JMW’s personal injury team, said: “We’re delighted to have been able to have put on an event that proved so successful, and encouraged so many people to give generously to this great cause, which is close to our hearts.

“We regularly work with individuals and families who are dealing with the issues created by an ABI and we know only too well how important it is that families are supported.  In the case of a child’s brain injury, having someone like the Child and Family Support Coordinator there, can prove a key step in a child’s recovery and rehabilitation process.  We’re privileged to be able to support the charity so that it can continue to perform its good work.”

Almost 200 guests attended the JMW event to be entertained by Irish comedian Andrew Ryan, who provided his services as the event’s compere, and Jonathan Mayor and Steve Royle, who performed a set each as the evening’s entertainment.

JMW Solicitors support the Child Brain Injury Trust in the North West as their sole legal support services provider in the region, providing legal advice of to individuals who contact the charity and are in need of help.  They have advised on several cases where a child has suffered a brain injury as the result of an accident or clinical error.

The Child Brain Injury Trust is also one of JMW Solicitors’ charities of the year 2015-2016, with the firm undertaking events ranging from world record attempts to fashion shows, in order to raise money for the charity.
