An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Dispute Resolution and Litigation team in JMW’s City of London office.

We are looking for an experienced solicitor to join at Associate, Senior Associate or Salaried Partner level (depending on experience). The role presents an opportunity for career progression as we grow this area of the practice.

The successful candidate will run a caseload of primarily contentious Trusts matters, with some contentious probate work. Ideally applicants should have a STEP or ACTAPS qualification and the ability to do homegrown work in these areas.

A following or demonstrable ability to develop a following would be beneficial.

Role Responsibilities

1.     Manage a caseload of contentious trusts and probate matters, including will disputes, inheritance claims, trust disputes, and contested probate cases.

2.     Conduct legal research and analysis to provide accurate and strategic advice to clients.

3.     Draft legal documents, including letters of claim, pleadings, witness statements, and court submissions.

4.     Attend hearings, mediations, and settlement negotiations on behalf of clients.

5.     Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, providing regular updates and managing expectations effectively.

6.     Keep abreast of developments in contentious trusts and probate law and contribute to the continuous improvement of the firm's legal services.

Person Specification

  • Minimum 3 years’ PQE
  • Proven track record of handling complex contentious trusts cases from inception to resolution.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, case law, and procedural rules.
  • Excellent drafting skills with the ability to prepare clear and persuasive legal documents.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality legal services and achieving the best possible outcomes for clients.
  • Keen interest in marketing and business development.
