JMW Breaks Through Two Major Barriers
Leading full service law firm JMW Solicitors LLP has announced an unpresented rise of 29% in annual revenue to £30.1 million at the half year point, 31st October 2017.
Annual revenue at 31 October 2016 was £23.3 million. Profit grew by more than revenue in the 12 month period to October 2017 rising 71% to £7.9 million. In the same month the firm grew to over 400 people at its Spinningfields base.
This is against a background of double digit growth every year since 2010. Revenue has increased by 149% since 2010/11 and 52% in the last 3 financial years (13/14 to 16/17).
All departments increased their fees over the period but of particular note are Business Crime & Regulation up 80% from October 2016 to October 2017 as well as a 53% increase in Residential Real Estate work, 51% in Commercial Litigation and a 44% increase in Corporate Recovery and Insolvency work.
In the last five years people working at JMW have more than doubled from 193 to 416 including 70 who have joined since May 2017. JMW has continued to recruit extensively with a number of lateral hires across all departments.
Simon Bloch has recently joined the Employment team as a Partner. Simon joined JMW from Knights 1759 and prior to that Brabners LLP. Simon operates in all areas of Employment law but has a sector focus on working with clients in the recruitment sector. Simon’s clients include Jobwise, Virtual Human Resources, V3 Recruitment, Cantel Medical and MNM Property Services.
Hojol Uddin also joined JMW as Partner and Head of Motoring. He advises individuals in all areas of motoring law including a specialism in medical revocation of licenses. His experience in motoring matters, Hojol was one of the co-founders of a company offering a unique motoring defence product provided to the insurance market and JMW now represents clients introduced by this company.
To accommodate the growing teams at JMW the firm has recently taken 14,000 square feet of new office accommodation at 3 Hardman Street, Spinningfields, in addition to the firm’s existing office space at 1 Byrom Place.
Commenting on the growth, Joy Kingsley, Senior Partner at JMW said:
“To say that we were surprised and delighted by our half year results would be an understatement. To say that is was all planed would be untrue! Activity in July and August did not decrease as normal. Our policy of making carefully chosen lateral hires with their own clients as opposed to mergers and takeovers has proved very successful for us. We at JMW are fortunate that we continue to be approached by lawyers who want to work for us and bring their contacts and clients. There are 7 further Partner hires serving notice at the current time. We also greatly value those who already work for us and have welcomed the many people who have joined the firm over the last few years. We are proud to have grown so substantially and look forward to 2018.”
