Another Celebrity Divorce hits the Headlines

It has been reported that Scarlett Johansson has filed from her Husband after just over 2 years’ of marriage.

It is understood that Scarlett and her French Husband, Romain Dauriac, married in October 2014 after dating for 2 years. They have a three year old daughter together. Scarlett was previously married to Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds for 2 years; their divorce was finalised in July 2011.

The recent announcement follows a turbulent 12 months in the world of Celebrity divorces, which has seen the acrimonious split of the likes of Hollywood heavyweights Brangelina and Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.

The recent round of divorces have occurred after relatively short periods of marriage for the couples involved; Scarlett and Romain were married for little over 2 years, Brad and Angelina were married for 2 years and Johnny and Amber’s marriage lasted for just over a year.

In an era where multiple divorces of the rich and famous are becoming increasingly common, it is important for celebrity daters to ensure that both their heart and their bank balance isn’t broken upon divorce.

Pre-Nuptial Agreements are legally enforceable in most US states and could save famous couples a huge amount of uncertainty and expense. Pre-Nuptial agreements are not legally binding in England and Wales, however over the past few years the Government have repeatedly been asked to reconsider the status of Pre-Nuptial Agreements so that the legal system here is aligned with that in the US. Currently, in England and Wales, if parties enter into a Pre-Nuptial Agreement prior to marriage, and the agreement satisfies a number of requirements, the Courts are likely to uphold the terms of Agreement.

Certainly in the case of a short marriage, a Pre-Nuptial Agreement could save a celebrity millions of pounds – both in terms of assets and also legal fees. The savvy superstar dater should always be armed with a good lawyer and a Pre-Nuptial Agreement before walking down the aisle!
