Getting to know.. Ellen Walker

24th September 2014

We asked our new Trainee a few questions to get to know Ellen Walker a little better..

So Ellen ..

How did you first start working in Law?

From an early age I had ambitions to work in Law. I wanted a career that would be both rewarding and challenging in equal measure. I gained experience at various high street firms before making an application to study Law at Newcastle University. Thereafter, both during and after my degree, I was lucky enough to secure vacation schemes at larger full service and corporate firms before being offered a training contract at JMW.

What is your favourite thing about working in Law? I

My favourite thing about working in Law (particularly at JMW) is the interesting and diverse work that I do on a daily basis. There is never a dull day!

If you didn't work in Law what would you do?

I would have to say a Doctor as it runs in the family. Failing which, I would put my passion for baking to good use and open up a coffee shop.

What's the one thing you can't live without?

Chocolate I really would be miserable without it.

Who inspires you? (personally or professionally)

Professionally - James Brown of JMW.

Personally - my mum who has taught me so much throughout the years and made me a better person for it.

If you were a superhero, what superpower would you have?

Definitely the ability to fly, it would make my love of travelling cheaper at the very least.

What nicknames do you have?

Elle and Ellie, not very inventive.

What was the last book you read?

The Goldfinch by Donna Tart.

If you hosted a dinner party, what three people (dead or alive) would you invite?

1. Heston Blumenthal for good food.

2. Clive Stafford Smith for an interesting debate.

3. Michael McIntyre for lots of laughs.

What question would you ask the next person undertaking this Q&A?

If you were an animal what you would be?

Additional question asked by Marie Worthington:

If you had 3 wishes, what would they be?

  1. To be able to time travel.
  2. For chocolate to be 'healthy'.
  3. To have 3 more wishes (does that count?).
