Getting to know.. Richard Parkinson

29th August 2014

We asked our new Commercial Partner, a few questions to get to know him a little better beyond the legal.

So Richard, we know how well you did the Ice Bucket Challenge (having seen 'that' famous image), but let's get to know you..

How did you first start working in Law? A bit of a familiar route - got interested watching things like Perry Mason. Went to University to study law and got myself a training contract following a vacation placement.

What is your favourite thing about working in Law? I like the variety that Commercial law gives one call could be in relation to a large scale outsourcing and the next someone ringing up with an idea for 'the next big thing' and looking to protect their ideas.

If you didn't work in Law what would you do? Natural talent rules out playing central midfield for Manchester United (although maybe not anymore..) but I'd love to run a local coffee shop/deli.

What's the one thing you can't live without? My family (especially my wife Catherine, my son Robbie (7) and my daughter Anna (4 )).

Who inspires you? (personally or professionally). My mum she has such a drive in life and never stops going and my Dad he taught me to be honest in life, do your best and treat everyone with the same respect you'd want to be treated with.

If you were a superhero, what superpower would you have? It'd have to be flight.

What nicknames do you have? Printable ones/ ones that I know of Parky & Ric (Vic at University long story). I'm sure there are many that I don't know of..

What was the last book you read? Becoming Johnny Vegas by Johnny Vegas.

If you hosted a dinner party, what three people (dead or alive) would you invite?

1. Eric Cantona

2. Nelson Mandela

3. Danny Baker

What question would you ask the next person undertaking this Q&A?

What's your guilty pleasure entertainment wise (TV Show, music and/or film)?
