Getting to know.. William Foster28th August 2015
We asked the newest member in the commercial property team a few questions to get to know him. So William...
How did you first start working in Law?
I first completed the LLB at the University of Manchester and followed that up with the LPC at the University of Law in Manchester. During this period, I carried out several work experiences and a role in claims handling which gave me a great introductory taste for what a career in the legal profession would entail. I consequently began applying for paralegal roles during the LPC and was ultimately successful in my application at JMW.
What is your favourite thing about working in Law?
Even after having only worked at JMW for a week and a half, I had already attended a client meeting, sat in on a seminar and confronted new tasks every day. I would therefore say that the variety of the job is my favourite aspect.
If you didn't work in Law what would you do?
Well, I devote a fair amount of my spare time to making electronic music, so I'd enjoy working in sound engineering professionally for film or TV. If we're talking pipedreams, then of course I'd love to be a touring producer/DJ.
What's the one thing you can't live without?
My laptop; it's something I use every day.
Who inspires you? (personally or professionally)
I always enjoy reading or watching interviews with anyone who has reached the top of their field, whether that's in business, science or the arts. Regardless of their chosen realm of expertise, they all seem to share the same contagious excitement for life.
If you were a superhero, what superpower would you have?
I don't know if it qualifies as 'super', but not needing to sleep would be brilliant. You could do so much more with each day.
What nicknames do you have?
My dad occasionally calls me Bill/Billy.
What was the last book you read?
I'm just about to finish Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon
If you hosted a dinner party, what three people (dead or alive) would you invite?
1. Elon Musk To hear about his future plans.
2. Wes Anderson To talk film.
3. Madeon To talk song writing and sound engineering.
Question from previous participant Peter Speight: What would be your perfect meal?
My favourite food is sushi, so probably a meal at the restaurant in Jiro Dreams of Sushi.
And finally William, what question would you ask the next person undertaking this Q&A?
What was the last live (music or otherwise) event you attended?
