JMW takes on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge

On Friday 22 June, a team from JMW will be walking the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in aid of The Bobath Centre and The Disabilities Trust. The team will consist of Steven Brown, Bethany Livesey, Kathryn Dyson, Oliver Orton, Lucy Mellor, Sarah Wilkinson, Jodie Miller and Katie Mellor amongst others.

The challenge will consist of walking an ascent of 5,200ft (1,585m) over a distance of 24 miles (38.6km) within 12 hours. The Yorkshire Three Peaks takes on the peaks of Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in the Yorkshire Dales National Park no matter what the weather, fingers crossed for some sunshine! It is not a challenge for the faint hearted.

The team will be starting the walk at approximately 7.30am and are hoping to complete the walk within the 12 hour challenge time (although, having personally walked it before in 9hours 48 minutes, I’m hoping that we can beat that time!) However, as most of the team have not walked up any mountains previously, this will definitely be a challenge for us all.

The JMW team are taking on this challenge for two brilliant charities who provide invaluable support to many of our clients.

The Bobath Centre is a specialist treatment and training centre dedicated to supporting children and families living with cerebral palsy and similar neurological conditions. The team at the Bobath Centre not only directly work with those affected by cerebral palsy but also assist with training other health professionals, thereby benefitting people within the wider community. For more information about the Bobath Centre, head over to their website https://www.bobath.org.uk/ or contact our Steven Brown who has been working closely with the charity.

The second charity that we are walking in aid of is the Disabilities Trust, a charity which provides care, rehabilitation and support to people suffering from a wide range of disabilities including brain injuries, physical impairments and autism. The Disabilities Trust helps to support both people who are directly affected by these conditions as well as their families and friends to meets the needs of those working with complex and challenging disabilities. More information can be found about the Disabilities Trust on their website https://www.thedtgroup.org/ or contact one of the team for more information.

Please wish us luck! Any donations would be gratefully appreciated to help support the invaluable work that these two charities provide.
