Michael is a Solicitor in the Intellectual Property Department, having joined as a Paralegal in September 2019 and completed his Training Contract in March 2021-23. He started a career in IP in February 2020 when Philip Partington joined the firm to establish an IP team for JMW.

Michael has experience in a wide range of IP matters such as:

  • High Court and IPEC litigation, including claims involving overseas parties
  • Trade mark registrations and disputes, including IPO proceedings such as oppositions and cancellations
  • Passing off disputes
  • Copyright
  • Design rights
  • Patent-related litigation
  • IP audit reports
  • IP agreements such as licences, assignments and co-existence.
  • Breach of confidence

Notably, Michael assisted with winning a case where JMW colleagues had their copyright infringed by a competitor – see Law Gazette article here. He has also been published in LexisNexis discussing the gin bottle design dispute between M&S and Aldi and in Lexology discussing breach of confidence in the travel consultancy sector. Michael also publishes blogs and updates on our website (see below) and LinkedIn.

Michael graduated from the University of Manchester in 2017 with a first class law degree. In 2018, he completed the Legal Practice Course at BPP University with a distinction, with electives in Commercial Law and Intellectual Property and Advanced Commercial Litigation.

In September 2023, Michael started the Postgraduate Diploma in IP Law and Practice, a one-year specialist IP course, at the University of Oxford.

Outside of IP, Michael enjoys exploring London, travelling and playing for and organising JMW London football.
