JMW bolsters Clinical Negligence team with London hire

Nicola Wainwright has joined the clinical negligence team at JMW Solicitors as its first partner based in the firm’s newly-established London office.

Nicola joins from Leigh Day, where she was a partner for 14 years and is the seventh senior hire for JMW’s London office this year.

Nicola has worked as a clinical negligence specialist for 20 years and specialises in claims related to serious brain injury. Key cases Nicola has worked on include settling a case for a significant 8-figure sum for a child whose forceps delivery at West Middlesex Hospital left her with severe brain damage and cerebral palsy and securing the future needs of a 16-year-old girl whose GP failed to diagnose her meningococcal septicaemia when she was a baby.

The appointment takes JMW’s clinical negligence team’s partner headcount to seven, and follows Mark Havenhand’s appointment to the Manchester office in February 2020.

Eddie Jones, head of clinical negligence at JMW, commented: “Nicola is a highly skilled lawyer and a welcome addition to the team as we continue to grow in line with client demand. JMW’s clinical negligence team was established more than 20 years ago and has always acted for many clients in London and the rest of the south. However Nicola’s appointment will enable us to push further into that market and strengthen our reputation as a national brand.”

JMW’s clinical negligence team has Tier 1 rankings in both legal industry guides Chambers and Partners and the Legal 500 with several partners named as leading individuals. Nicola has also been regularly ranked in Chambers and Partners.

JMW’s full service London office opened in May 2019.The firm has been ranked number 33 in 2020 The Sunday Times 'Best Companies' to work for listing. The listing is compiled from a survey of company staff across all sectors. JMW was the second law firm within the top 100.
