JMW Solicitors is pleased to announce today a new partnership with sight loss charity Henshaws.

The partnership will provide Henshaws’ service users with access to JMW’s specialist legal services, while also creating opportunities for fundraising to support the charity’s work, and volunteering for JMW staff keen to donate their time.

Led at JMW by the medical negligence team, but also incorporating the wills and personal injury teams, another key aim of the partnership will be to raise awareness of sight loss and the unique challenges it presents to those living with it.

Kimberley Peet, a specialist clinical negligence solicitor at JMW who has helped numerous people who have experienced avoidable vision loss, commented: “Henshaws offers life-changing support to adults and children who have sight loss throughout their lifetime and we are thrilled to be able to partner with them for this initiative. The partnership will enable JMW to raise vital funds for Henshaws over the 12 months, work with it to raise awareness of sight loss and ensure that its service users have access to trustworthy and compassionate legal advice should they need it.”

Initially spanning 12 months but with scope for it to continue beyond, the partnership’s key aims are:

·         Raise vital funds for Henshaws’ support services through corporate donations and staff-led challenges and initiatives.

·         Provide Henshaws’ service users, staff and supporters with access to JMW’s trustworthy legal assistance should they need it.

·         Provide specialist advice to people who have lost their sight due to a lack of medical care or an avoidable accident.

·         Enable JMW staff to take up volunteering opportunities at Henshaws’ events and initiatives.

·         Increase awareness of sight loss and the importance of businesses ensuring their services are accessible, for example by providing Henshaws’ visual impairment training to staff

Mel Scholefield, fundraising development manager at Henshaws, said she was delighted to welcome JMW to the Henshaws’ family. She said: “Since getting to know JMW it’s easy to see how much they care about their clients with sight loss and other disabilities and how committed they are to supporting charities. The medical negligence team has received our visual impairment awareness training and JMW made a vital contribution by volunteering at our recent Carols by Candlelight event.

"Henshaws is excited to be partnering with a company that values supporting people with sight loss and other disabilities. Several members of staff from JMW have also signed up to do our Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge in July and there will be more initiatives to come in the next 12 months.”
