Lawyer for victims of infected blood scandal welcomes recommendation for immediate compensation
Nicola Wainwright, partner and head of JMW Solicitors’ London clinical negligence team, who is handling claims for compensation for a number of patients who developed hepatitis C and/or HIV as a result of receiving infected blood products, has welcomed the recommendation from the chair of the Infected Blood Inquiry that an immediate interim compensation payment of £100,000 be made to at least some of those who have suffered terribly as a result of the scandal.
Nicola commented: “The lives of those who received infected blood, and the lives of their loved ones, were changed irrevocably by their infection - physically, mentally and financially.
“The inquiry chair has made this interim recommendation because he does not think those infected and affected should even have to wait another six months or more until the end of the inquiry. They have been waiting decades already and if there is much further delay, sadly some won’t survive long enough to receive even this interim payment.
“I urge the government to act on this recommendation now.”
