Planning a trip to Lapland? Don;t say we didn't tell you snow!

13th December 2018 Personal Injury

As we are now well and truly within the festive period, trips to see Santa Claus may now be on the horizon. If you’re planning to go on a family holiday to Lapland, make sure your magical getaway is protected legally if, god forbid, anything goes wrong.

In July, The Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 came into force and with it, additional protection for millions of consumers. Our advice to you would be to make the most of this protection! The legislation essentially means that the tour providers must advertise honestly (that you get what you pay for) and also means the Tour Operator has a duty of care towards you when you are doing anything within the package holiday. When booking a holiday, especially to Lapland, ensure that it is booked as a package. The days out to see Rudolph should be then booked as excursions within the package so that if anything happens resulting in injury, the Tour Operator may be liable. Potentially dangerous activities associated with winter such as going on a husky trip or snowmobiling across the ice, when booked as excursions through the resort, may therefore be legally protected if anything unfortunate was to happen. Just like Santa is insured when he’s riding through space on his slay, we strongly urge you to afford yourselves with similar protection.

Should an accident occur, you must report it as soon as possible to your resort representative and/or any hotel staff. Moreover, contact your travel insurance provider to seek advice on the level of coverage you have for medical attention; we recommend you have the contact number of your provider at all times. It is very helpful to your claim if the accident has actually been recorded in the resort’s accident book so do try and ensure the accident is logged. Taking photographs and taking the names and contact details of witnesses will also be helpful for your claim.

We appreciate the drastic consequences that can occur from an Accident Abroad. From being unable to work to being unable to look after your children, we are here to ensure that you get the appropriate compensation as quickly and efficiently as possible. Do make sure that your book your special festive break as a package with excursions included so that we can help you should the worst happen.
