JMW Provides Major Support Boost To Child Brain Injury Trust

Leading North West law firm JMW Solicitors has significantly increased its support of national charity, the Child Brain Injury Trust, by agreeing to become its sole legal support services provider in the region.

Manchester-based JMW’s support is part of a new nationwide three year pilot that the charity, which provides assistance and advice to families of children who have suffered an acquired brain injury, is running in order to ensure the charity’s child and family support service can continue, after a £300,000 cut in funding from the Department of Health in 2014.

It will also ensure that families’ legal needs are met and support the charity and its partners in getting the data it needs to enable them to stay at the forefront of the issues which affect families.

JMW Solicitors will work with the Child Brain Injury Trust in the North West over the next three years, ensuring that the charity is able to provide its service users access to a wide range of legal services, including information and advice on personal injury, clinical negligence, employment and housing claims, as well as welfare advice.

Gordon Cartwright, JMW partner specialising in brain injury claims, said of the partnership: “I am delighted JMW is able to increase the level of support we can provide the Child Brain Injury Trust, a charity whose work we believe is crucial to the wellbeing of the region’s young people and their families.  Our support over the next three years means that families in need of legal advice as a result of their child’s acquired brain injury, have a one stop shop they can turn to, who will counsel them when they need it the most and help to relieve the strain that a child acquired brain injury can place on families.

“It is also great to know that JMW’s support means that vital services, such as the child and family support service, which supports children and families from a child’s admission to hospital and beyond, can continue to provide a much-needed outlet when families are at their most vulnerable.”

Rachel Ritter, the Child Brain Injury Trust’s head of fundraising, said: “Over the past year we have worked hard to maintain our services in the face of overwhelming funding cuts, central to which has been preserving the child and family support service.  We are delighted to be able to partner with JMW Solicitors in order to set up the legal support service offer in the North West and secure some of our services.  Their support will help us provide families with the long term help they deserve and enable the charity to plan its work more effectively.”

The new legal support service will start from March 2015 and replaces the Child Brain Injury Trust’s nationwide legal services directory.

Rachel continued: “Ultimately, the decision was taken to work with JMW based on their long term and unconditional support of the charity both from a firm-wide approach, their ability to offer excellent, wide-ranging legal provision to our service users, and the relationships we have formed with key individuals.”
