JMW Solicitors 'zip' to a sky high fundraising total for charity

Manchester law firm JMW Solicitors celebrated yesterday (Sunday 14 October) after employees completed a sponsored zipslide that saw them raise over £2,000 for charity.

The firm’s Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence departments put forward a team of 15 volunteers to take part in a 30m high, 250m long zipslide from the Imperial War Museum North, across the Manchester Ship Canal, for the Child Brain Injury Trust.

JMW’s team, which ranged from equity partners to paralegals, raised £2,633.31 for the charity, which provides support, information and training to those affected by an acquired brain injury in a child.

Gordon Cartwright, partner and zipslider, said: “I’m delighted that ‘team JMW’ has been able to raise such a great amount for the Child Brain Injury Trust.  I’m afraid of heights, so committing to doing a 30m high zipslide was quite a large step for me, but I believe in the Child Brain Injury Trust, what they stand for, and the work that they do.

“Standing at the top of the Imperial War Museum on a cold October morning was certainly an unusual way to spend my Sunday, but the money we’ve been able to raise made the zipslide, and getting over my fears, totally worthwhile.  My colleagues and I are very grateful for the support our friends, family and co-workers have given us.”

The Child Brain Injury Trust is currently raising funds to put a Child and Family Support Officer in place in the North West by Christmas time, so that they have the ability to offer affected children and families in the local area, a direct line of support, both in hospital and at home.

Rachel Ritter, fundraising manager at the Child Brain Injury Trust, said: “This brand new service will support children and their families from across the North West.  We will be working closely with medical teams at both Alder Hey and the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital to make sure that families are supported from the point of injury and then throughout their whole journey from hospital, returning to school if that is possible and much more.

“We are so grateful that the team at JMW Solicitors chose to take part in our zip slide challenge and raised almost £3,000 for the charity.  It costs around £50,000 each year to provide this vital service and we simply could not do it without our amazing fundraisers.”
