Cycling Accidents in Manchester Map

Cyclists are one of the most vulnerable road users because they do not have the same level of physical protection as vehicle drivers. This means accidents involving cyclists are likely to suffer more serious injuries that can have a detrimental effect on the rider’s quality of life.

Each year, the Department for Transport gathers data on the number of reported cycling casualties in Manchester. The latest data shows that there were 552 reported accidents in 2018, which is a 10% decrease compared to 2017, which reported 616 accidents.

In addition, a survey of more than 1,500 cyclists, conducted by JMW, revealed that one-third of cyclists in the UK have been involved in an accident on the road. Read more about our survey results here.

JMW’s cycling injuries team has analysed the data and interpreted it into a map to show where the most accidents happen across the region of Manchester. To view a specific area’s data, zoom in on the location. To view data from a specific year, move the slider to the relevant year.
