Meet Corporal Andy Reid MBE: JMW’s Armed Forces Ambassador
Corporal Andy Reid MBE has joined JMW’s armed forces claims team as an Ambassador to encourage soldiers to seek help through compensation following an injury.
The partnership will help to end the ‘man-up’ culture that continues to dominate the armed forces, which could prevent some individuals from speaking out, and raise awareness around the advice, support available and securing financial payments.
In October 2009, Corporal Andy Reid lost both of his legs and his right arm after stepping on an IED while on patrol in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, with the 3rd Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment. His injuries were so bad that it was thought he would not survive; however, he astounded people with recovery, returning home after just two weeks in the hospital.
Serving in the British Armed Forces was a childhood dream for Andy, who continues to reflect positively on his time in the army and the fantastic opportunities and experiences it allowed him to experience. A testament to his attitude in overcoming adversity, he doesn’t let the severity of his injuries stop him from living his life with a positive mindset.
Andy was awarded a Millie Award in 2010 for ‘overcoming adversity’. This annual awards ceremony recognises military units and personnel who have been nominated under a number of different categories.
In 2011, he got married to his partner, Claire - which he had set as one of his goals, along with being able to walk again. And in 2012, Andy welcomed his first child, William. He was followed six years later by his sister, Scarlett.
Today, Andy Reid is a triple amputee skydiver, cyclist and charity fundraiser who is committed to supporting armed forces personnel. His new role as Ambassador to JMW Solicitors complements other partnerships with Step Forward Homes, the ABF Soldier Charity and Morson International.
