Boardroom Breakfast Briefing: Owning, Protecting and Leveraging Your Brand
We would be delighted if you could join us for the next in our series of Boardroom Breakfast Briefings, designed for professional intermediaries and trusted advisors who support businesses through complex and sensitive issues.
This session will be hosted by Graham Small, alongside guest speakers John Burns, Partner and Head of our Intellectual Property and Commercial Team, and Richard Parkinson, Partner in the same team. Together, they will explore the practical lifecycle of a brand from securing ownership and protection to exploiting and commercialising IP effectively.
Our discussion will look at the important foundations every brand owner should consider, including what it means to truly own a brand, the importance of getting registration right, and the options available where registration isn’t possible.
We will explore:
- How brands can be protected in a way that supports future growth and new opportunities
- Practical differences between internal brand development, licensing and franchising
- Real-life examples illustrating how businesses make the most of their brand assets
We will also consider the commercial issues that typically arise when brands are licensed or franchised, including how much control a brand owner should retain, when and how either party can exit an arrangement, and what needs to be agreed around territories, renewal rights and financial commitments. Our panel will also touch on a few straightforward structuring considerations that can help support longer-term plans, and look at how AI is beginning to influence brand management and IP risk.
