Visa Applications for Individuals

As a highly skilled person, you are required to pass a points-based assessment. There are five tiers of immigration for highly skilled people, including a number of subcategories.

Tier 1 Investor

The Tier 1 Investor visa category is for high net worth individuals who want to make a considerable financial investment in the UK of £2 million or more. For more information on the investor visa category, visit our dedicated page.

Global Talent

The Global Talent route is designed for ‘exceptionally talented’ individuals in the fields of science, humanities, engineering, performing arts or digital technology. For more information on applying for work in the UK based on exceptional talent, visit our dedicated page.

Tier 4 Student

Tier 4 is focused on non-EEA nationals who wish to come to the UK for the purpose of studying. To read more about applying for a student visa, visit our dedicated page.

Tier 5 Temporary Work

Tier 5 is designed to accommodate people coming to the UK on a temporary basis who have a job offer from a licensed sponsor and a valid certificate of sponsorship. To read more about making an application for a temporary work visa, visit our dedicated page.

Visa Applications for Companies

There are three tiers of immigration relating to employing staff from outside of the EEA.

Tier 2 Sponsor Licences

If you want to employ a member of staff from outside the EEA, you need a sponsor licence to provide evidence that the migrant worker has a genuine job in the UK. The sponsor licence also acts as a pledge from you (the sponsor) that you will accept the responsibilities of the sponsorship. For more information on Tier 2 sponsor licences, visit our dedicated page, or download our Guide to Employing Overseas Workers brochure.

Tier 2 (General) Skilled Worker

The Tier 2 (General) category is designed for skilled workers with a job offer to fill a gap in the workforce that cannot be filled by a settled worker in the UK. Similar to the other tiers of the PBS related to companies, Tier 2 is an employer-led process. To read more about this type of visa, visit the Tier 2 (General) Skilled Worker page.

Tier 2 Intra-Company Transfer Skilled Worker

The Tier 2 (Intra-Company Transfer) category is designed for employees of multinational companies who wish to be transferred to a UK branch of the organisation - either on a long-term basis or for frequent short visits. For more information on intra-company transfers, visit our dedicated page.
