Sumara Azhar joined JMW in March 2020 as a Corporate Immigration Solicitor.
She advises both individuals and businesses on a broad spectrum of UK immigration matters, covering the Points Based System, European Free Movement Rights, long residence applications, family based applications, nationality and litigation matters in the Immigration Tribunal. Very often Sumara’s clients' personal circumstances rarely fit neatly into obvious immigration categories, and therefore her cases are frequently of an exceptional, complex and multi-jurisdictional nature.
Many clients wish to obtain Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK and subsequent British citizenship. This often involves complex matters such as excess absences from the UK requiring the exercise of discretion by the Home Office in relation to such applications. As a result Sumara is required to assist with the provision of long term strategic advice, as well as establishing links and connections with the UK for such clients. Sumara has represented high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals from the Middle-East and Asia.
Prior to joining JMW, Sumara worked in a niche immigration firm, where she advised clients in relation to business and private client immigration matters under the Immigration Rules and in regards to nationality law, EU free movement law and human rights law. Sumara also has extensive experience in advising clients with respect to litigation at both the First-Tier Tribunal and Upper Tribunal level.
Outside of work, Sumara enjoys painting, interior designing and travelling.
