Neli joined the firm in the Commercial Litigation Department in London in May 2020.

Neli specialises in property litigation and has advised clients on a variety of matters, including:

  • Lender terms of business and other contracts.
  • Changes in the law (including the Renters’ Rights Bill) and adaptive business strategy.

Neli advises on a wide range of matters and she is passionate about offering commercial and practical solutions to her clients through the implementation of appropriate negotiation and Alternative Dispute Resolution strategies.

Some examples of Neli’s work include:

  • Successfully resolving disputes between landlords and tenants over rent arrears, property possession and unlawful subletting (e.g. via Booking.com and AirBnB).
  • Acting in successful appeals in the High Court and in the Court of Appeal for the lender on the issue of debt enforcement where the debtor is in a Breathing Space (David Terence Forbes v Seculink Limited).
  • Acting in a Court of Appeal case for the successful landlord on the issue of the correct manner in which corporate landlords and agents must sign statutory notices and prescribed information forms (Northwood Solihull Ltd v Fearn & Cooke).
  • Acting for the intervener supporting the successful side in a Supreme Court case on the matter of whether a superior landlord can be the subject of a Rent Repayment Order application made by the indirect tenant/occupier (Rakusen v Jepsen and others).
  • Acting for property owners in recovering possession of their property following failed or unauthorised rent-to-rent arrangements, including advice and assistance in dealing with sub-tenants.
  • Acting for landlords in challenging civil penalties, improvement notices and licence refusals issued by local authorities.
  • Successfully recovering debt from tenants’ guarantors.
  • Advising clients – agents and landlords – on the Renters’ Rights Bill and assisting with preparation for the legal reforms.
  • Acting for landlords and tenants in relation to tenancy deposit protection disputes.

Neli qualified as a solicitor on 1 November 2019. Prior to that, she obtained extensive civil litigation experience after qualifying with a First-Class Honours LLB in 2013. Neli was born and educated in Bulgaria before coming to the UK to attend university.

Neli enjoys reading and staying active. Neli is fascinated by space and would have become an astrophysicist had she not gone into the law.
