Ben is Head of Sport Services at JMW. Within his role, Ben runs Barn Door UK, JMW’s award-winning online platform connecting over 200 athletes and investors, with new business (investment) and active commercial opportunities.
Ben’s work includes:
- Advising clients and leading on consultancy projects having built out a commercial advisory division to complement the legal team and enhance the firm’s sports offering
- Advising on the inception, fundraising process and commercial growth strategy for investment companies, consumer facing challenger brands and early stage businesses
- Sourcing, reviewing and evaluating all new investment and commercial opportunities that sit on the Barn Door platform in sectors including: sports technology and health technology
- Brokering and negotiating commercial deals with athletes, brands and sports rights holders
Ben’s work at the intersection of athletes and investors aligning themselves with early stage consumer and impact start-up businesses in sports, health and wellness has seen him keynote and comment in public on matters concerning athlete welfare, brand building and the sports tech industry, including representing Barn Door on a number of panels.
Upon completing of his History degree from the University of Nottingham in 2012, Ben went on to become one of the youngest FA Licensed Agents in the UK as part of the team at Base Soccer Agency (CAA Base). He then moved to Lagardère Sports (SportFive) – the world’s leading sports marketing group and rights holder – to work across their global commercial and sponsorship rights portfolio, dealing with businesses and brands on a national and international basis.
Away from work, Ben is an avid sportsman himself. Season dependent, he has been touted as a fair-weather footballer, golfer and tennis player. When not out playing sport, you can find him at Old Trafford, or pursuing his other interests, including a keen passion for travel.
