Carla Mennillo

Carla joined JMW in December 2024 as a Solicitor in the clinical negligence team in the London office.

Carla has experience handling a variety of clinical negligence matters, including those arising from:

• Birth injury
• Brain injuries
• Misdiagnosis
• Surgical negligence
• Delays in diagnosis and treatment of cancer

Carla originally studied law in her home country, Italy, where she obtained her Master’s degree in 2014. She then moved to the UK and gained extensive experience in English law as a paralegal at Leigh Day, where she specialised exclusively in clinical negligence work.

Carla qualified as a solicitor through the SQE in October 2023. Following her qualification, Carla joined Penningtons Manches Cooper in December 2023 where she worked as an Associate in the clinical negligence department, before joining JMW.

As a native Italian speaker, Carla is passionate about assisting Italian-speaking clients who may find the legal process in the UK daunting; she is happy to offer guidance in her native language to help clients feel more comfortable and supported.

Carla’s experience to date includes:

• Assisting a woman with an inquest into (and subsequent clinical negligence claim arising from) the death of her late husband who died by suicide in circumstances where, as per the coroner's findings, there were missed opportunities to reassess his mental health risk in the period leading up to his death.
• Assisting with securing an eight-figure compensation settlement for an 11-year-old child who suffered permanent severe brain injury as a result of a delay in diagnosis and treatment of meningitis when she was 16-month-old.
• Securing a six-figure compensation settlement for a young woman who suffered permanent facial scarring due to negligent dermatology treatment. Her injuries also led to severe psychological issues, leaving her socially isolated and dependant on her family.
• Obtaining an admission of liability for a young woman who, after giving birth, suffered Group A Streptococcus infection which was not diagnosed promptly, causing her to develop sepsis. Unfortunately, she was left with permanent significant mobility impairment.
• Helping to secure a settlement for a man who sustained a pre-frontal cortex brain injury following a negligent nasal endoscopy, which left him with cognitive impairment and significant memory issues.
• Helping to secure a settlement for a woman who suffered a vertebral fracture, a spinal cord injury, and a fracture of her foot, and was left with significant chronic pain and lasting injuries.

Outside of work, Carla enjoys cooking and travelling; she is also passionate about self-development and wellbeing, and has trained as a yoga nidra teacher.
