Claire joined JMW in September 2016 in the Commercial Litigation Department.
Experience
Claire has significant experience in a broad range of commercial and sports related disputes and is part of the firm’s Boardroom Disputes team. Claire specialises in contractual disputes, shareholder disputes, claims concerning breaches of directors’ duties, warranty claims, partnership disputes and professional negligence claims.
In particular, Claire’s experience includes:
- Bringing and defending claims for breach of contract in a variety of different commercial contexts, including where there is a dispute as to the wording and interpretation of the contract in question.
- Obtaining, on behalf of employers, injunctive relief against former employees in light of actual and anticipated breaches of post-termination restrictive covenants and in order to protect against the misuse of confidential information, and defending such applications.
- Acting on behalf of minority shareholders in circumstances where they have been excluded from the management of (often) multi-million pound businesses, or where a majority shareholder has received notice of such a claim.
- Acting on several high profile football agency disputes.
- Bringing and defending claims for breach of warranty brought by purchasers of a business post-acquisition.
- Acting on behalf of various high net worth individuals in relation to professional negligence claims against their former accountants/financial advisers in respect of investment and other advice provided.
- Securing and defending applications for injunctive relief, including applications for freezing injunctions, search orders and the delivery up of property.
- Conducting and advising in respect of Rule K arbitrations and other sporting regulatory matters.
Claire is recognised as a key practitioner and “leading partner” within Legal 500 2025.
Claire has also been appointed a Specialist Member of the Sport Resolutions Panel (National Panel) for the period 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2027.
Background
Claire graduated from the University of Leeds in 2000 and completed the GPDL and LPC at the College of Law, Chester, in 2002 and 2003 respectively. She trained at a high street firm in Southport before qualifying in September 2005 and moving to Brabners LLP in early 2007 where she developed her commercial practice.
