Katherine qualified as a Solicitor in 2008 and has specialised exclusively in Court of Protection work since 2010. She is a registered Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP), having completed the STEP Diploma in Trusts and Estates in 2014, and is a Director of JMW Trust Corporation.
Katherine specialises in advising on the management of the property and financial affairs of individuals who are unable to make decisions for themselves as a result of catastrophic brain injury, clinical negligence, illness or age-related loss of capacity.
She has extensive experience managing complex deputyship matters, including high-value, multi-million-pound compensation awards. She works closely with clinical negligence and personal injury lawyers throughout the lifespan of a claim, assisting with the management of interim payments and ensuring clients have the financial support they need before settlement.
Her work often includes overseeing the purchase of suitable properties and coordinating significant adaptation projects to meet clients’ long-term care and rehabilitation needs. Following settlement, Katherine supports clients and their families with the ongoing management of compensation awards, working alongside investment advisers, case managers and other professionals to ensure funds are managed effectively and remain available throughout the client’s lifetime.
Katherine acts where a professional Deputy has been appointed and also advises family members applying to the Court of Protection to become property and affairs Deputies. She has considerable experience in complex Court of Protection applications, including Statutory Wills, gifting applications and other matters involving substantial estates. Her practice also includes advising on the establishment and administration of Personal Injury Trusts, helping clients protect their compensation and manage their financial affairs with confidence.
Alongside her practice, Katherine is committed to supporting the wider brain injury community.
Between 2014 and 2018, she served as Director and Treasurer of Headway Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde, where she used her Court of Protection expertise to support individuals living with acquired brain injuries, together with their families and carers.
She is a member of STEP Manchester and STEP SIG for Mental Capacity, and a committee member for Court of Protection Association (COPPA) North West.
