Liz Davies

Liz is a Senior Associate in JMW's Clinical Negligence team, specialising exclusively in clinical negligence cases since 2012. She has developed particular expertise in spinal injury cases, especially cases involving cauda equina syndrome, and manage a busy caseload of complex and technically challenging cases on behalf of clients who have suffered life-changing injuries.

Liz graduated from the University of Leeds with a law degree before completing the Legal Practice Course at Cardiff University. She then trained and qualified at a firm in Sheffield before moving to JMW in 2016, where she has continued to develop her specialist practice in clinical negligence work.

Liz works closely with the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) and has a strong interest in supporting people affected by spinal injuries and neurological conditions, although her practice also includes cases involving birth injury, delays in diagnosis of cancer and cases involving fatalities.

She prides herself on combining a thorough approach to her work with a supportive and approachable manner, helping clients to navigate what is often one of the most difficult periods of their lives.

Recent cases Liz has successfully secured compensation for include:

• £135,000 for a man who experienced a delayed diagnosis of his bowel cancer and now tragically has a terminal diagnosis.
• £95,000 for a man who had suffered a 13 year delay in the diagnosis of a scaphoid wrist fracture.
• £70,000 for the mother of a baby who died at four weeks old, after his preventable premature delivery caused complications.
• £560,000 for a woman who suffered permanent neurological disability as a result of a delay in her cauda equina syndrome being treated.
• £550,000 for an 18-year-old man who had developed Erb’s Palsy following a brachial plexus injury at birth.
• £475,000 for a young man who sustained nerve damage during an ACL knee reconstruction.
• £135,000 for a lady who had a spinal injection at the wrong level of her spine, causing permanent nerve damage.
• £70,000 for a 10-year-old boy who had sepsis, and delays in it being diagnosed and treated resulted in him requiring intensive care and requiring removal of part of his lung. 

Outside of work, Liz enjoys keeping active through running and is usually training for a half marathon. She also enjoys walking in the Peak District and spending time with her husband and two young daughters, who help her to recharge away from my desk.
