Steven is a partner in the clinical negligence department at JMW. He has helped patients affected by many different types of medical negligence to challenge the mistakes that were made and secure compensation.
Appointed to the position of partner at JMW in 2019, Steven is ranked as a Next Generation Partner in the Legal 500. One source told the guide that Steven is 'absolutely amazing' and another that 'he is everything the modern clin negligence solicitor should be – empathetic with clients, switched-on about the law and with a good understanding of medical issues'.
Steven’s caseload is now primarily made up of spinal injury and adult and child brain injury claims. In 2021 he obtained more than £7 million in compensation for a man left wheelchair dependant after hospital failures and in 2020 he secured approximately £13 million in compensation for a teenager with severe cerebral palsy due to maternity errors. Steven is currently working to settle numerous multi-million-pound cerebral palsy claims arising from poor care during birth or the newborn period. This includes kernicterus cases.
Steven has specialised in the field of clinical negligence since qualifying as a solicitor in 2008. Hailing from Gateshead, Steven completed a Law Degree at Manchester University and the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at the College of Law, Chester. He is a member of the training group for the British Association of Brain Injury and Complex Case Management and a supporter of Bobath Centre for Children with Cerebral Palsy and has delivered seminars to both organisations.
