Andrew advises a broad spectrum of commercial clients in order to resolve disputes via court proceedings and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes.  Andrew's emphasis on a methodical and pragmatic approach, tailored to the specific circumstances of any dispute, coupled with his undoubted commitment, provides clients with a bespoke service to address their legal problems.

This approach, together with a strong understanding of the law and ability to get to grips with complex commercial disputes, ensures that clients' commercial and legal objectives are met.  Legal 500 2010, an independent guide to the legal profession, comments, "He has ‘a keen eye for shrewd means of best protecting his client's interests'".

Andrew’s experience includes:

  • Handling a complex appeal in the Supreme Court (HMRC v Cotter) relating to personal taxation reliefs and penalties;
  • Succeeding in a long-running claim for breach of trust and conspiracy relating to the ownership of a company, giving rise to a damages award in excess of £2million, involving 2 trials and the opponents’ unsuccessful attempts to overturn the court’s rulings on liability and quantum in the Court of Appeal;
  • Successfully pursuing claims for professional negligence against solicitors in relation to corporate and commercial transactions;
  • Successfully recovering funds from and liquidating the assets of an individual who had misappropriated funds deposited with him for the purpose of investment on behalf of a client based in the US;
  • Acting for a UK manufacturer of agricultural machinery in a dispute with its Dutch distributor, involving proceedings in the High Court and The Netherlands with urgent interim applications for injunctive and declaratory relief;
  • Successfully opposing claims arising in respect of personal guarantees;
  • Successfully obtaining and opposing a number of urgent interim injunctions, including freezing injunctions;
  • Successfully negotiating the recovery of overcharges made by banks on commercial loan agreements;
  • Dealing with a range of complex commercial disputes relating to companies and partnerships, breaches of warranty, joint ventures, franchises, agency, construction, insurance, sale and supply of goods and services
