Jemma has a wide range of experience acting for clients in commercial disputes. She often advises on breach of contract claims, civil fraud, bank and finance disputes, cyber disputes, media and reputation management issues and shareholder disputes.
Jemma has advised clients who have been involved in collective investment schemes, Ponzi and mis sold investment schemes. Many of her cases have involved multiple jurisdictions. She has also acted on behalf of clients who require assistance tracing and freezing stolen assets or have been victim of bank fraud, including Authorised Push Payment Fraud. She is adept to working alongside experts and leading counsel in asset recovery and tracing claims.
Jemma has particular expertise and experience with cryptocurrencies and other digital assets. This includes obtaining urgent injunctive relief, worldwide freezing orders and permission to serve outside of the jurisdiction where individuals or corporates have been subject to NFT or cryptocurrency fraud.
Jemma is frequently invited to speak at events in both Manchester and London on the legal issues arising in digital assets disputes. She recently spoke on the topic of cryptocurrency at the International Arbitration Summit alongside HHJ Pelling KC. She also spoke at the Fraud Conference 2023 on “Fraud in a Virtual World.” She is well known for her technical expertise in this area.
Jemma frequently advises clients on a broad range of issues and always looks to resolve disputes as swiftly and cost-effectively as possible, often without the need for formal proceedings through other forms of dispute resolution including mediation. Where settlement is not possible, Jemma is adept at resolving complex and high value disputes through court proceedings and has appeared before the commercial divisions of the High Court and the Court of Appeal.
Jemma also has experience in media law and acts for high profile clients in the public eye in defamation claims. She has also assisted in committal proceedings following the breach of a final injunction restraining the publication of information.
Jemma was shortlisted for Woman of the year 2023 in the category “fintech & crypto innovation UK,” she is the Manchester lead for Women in Blockchain and currently sits of the advisory board for the British Blockchain Association.
Jemma regularly attends and contributes to groups in the legal sphere and the fashion and retail sector. She is frequently involved in hosting ‘Women In Business’ events and fashion events.
