Sam joined JMW in October 2016 and is a Solicitor in the Commercial Litigation Department.

Sam has a large array of experience in corporate and commercial disputes and specialises in advising both individuals and companies. Sam’s particular specialisms include acting for Claimants and Defendants in breach of contract claims, shareholder and director disputes, professional negligence and contested high value debt claims.

Sam is also experienced in the Sports sector and has advised a number of high profile sportspeople including Football Clubs, Managers and Olympic athletes. Sam has advised in relation to sponsorship agreements, disciplinary issues and legal issues in relation to playing contracts and transfers. Sam also has experience in running high value Football Association Rule K arbitration claims. Sam has been appointed to the Sport Resolutions’ Pro Bono Legal Advice panel where he will assist with offering legal advice and/or representation to athletes and other individuals involved in UK funded high performance sport as well as individuals involved in Sport Resolutions proceedings.

Sam is also a member of the specialist Digital Asset Disputes team at JMW. Sam has experience in obtaining injunctive relief where individuals or companies have been subject to cryptocurrency fraud and was involved in one of the first cases in the country where Disclosure Orders were obtained against a multi-billion pound cryptocurrency exchange and a subsequent Freezing Order was obtained over a significant amount of Bitcoin.

Sam graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2015 with a degree in Philosophy. He subsequently went on to study the GDL and LPC at the University of Law in Manchester.

Sam is an avid Manchester City fan and has had a season ticket for over 15 years. Aside from supporting the Citizens, Sam also plays football regularly and plays table tennis to a high standard.

Notable Cases/Wins

Smith v (1) Smith (2) Clive Smith (Oxford) Limited [2022] EWHC 1035 (Ch)  - Sam was successful for the Petitioner in a s.994 Companies Act 2006 Unfair Prejudice Petition and obtained a High Court Order that his client’s shares be purchased for over half a million pounds with no minority discount.
