Steven Brown is a Senior Associate in the medical negligence department at JMW and has specialised in the field since qualifying as a solicitor and joining JMW in 2008. He is ranked in the 2019 edition of the Legal 500 as a Next Generation Lawyer and is described as a ‘highly committed and proactive claimant lawyer’.

He helps patients affected by many different types of medical negligence to challenge the mistakes that were made and secure compensation. Steven also has significant expertise in cases involving neurological injury including cauda equina syndrome. Has also dealt with high value cases involving fatal accidents, wrongful birth and negligent surgery.

Steven also has experience of providing inquest representation for the families of people who have died from their injuries. Hailing from Gateshead, Steven completed a Law Degree at Manchester University and the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at the College of Law, Chester.Cases he has successfully settled include £1.5 million for a patient who suffered debilitating spinal injury cauda equina syndrome due to hospital errors (representing one of the largest settlements for a claim of that nature), £1 million for a patient left permanently disabled by a major stroke after a hospital wrongly snt him home when the warning signs appeared and a settlement of £200,000 for the husband of a patient who died following a delay in recognising post-surgical complications.

Steven has featured in the national press after helping a client whose husband was affected by horrendous pressure sores to raise awareness of the issue (The Mirror) and also featured in the Daily Mail covering birth injuries.

A former committee member of the Manchester Young Solicitors group, Steven has spent time working in a pro bono legal advice centre in Manchester advising members of the community on a range of issues.
