Partner Manchester Clinical Negligence
Steven is a partner in the clinical negligence department at JMW. He has helped patients affected by many different types of medical negligence to challenge the mistakes that were made and secure compensation.
Appointed to the position of partner at JMW in 2019, Steven is ranked as a Next Generation Partner in the Legal 500 2021. The guide describes him as a superb example of a personable practitioner who readily commands the confidence of his disabled clients. Steven was previously ranked as a "Rising Star" in the 2020 edition, which described him as “highly rated”.
Brain and spinal injury compensation claims
Steven’s caseload is now primarily made up of spinal injury and adult and child brain injury claims. In 2020 he secured approximately £13 million in compensation for a teenager with severe cerebral palsy due to maternity errors. He is currently working to settle numerous multi-million-pound cerebral palsy claims arising from poor care during birth or the newborn period.
Steven also has extensive expertise in spinal injury cases, and in 2021 secured more than £7 million for a man who was left wheelchair dependant after a hospital failed to adequately report the findings of scans showing he required urgent treatment. Cauda equina syndrome is another area Steven is highly experienced in and in 2020 he obtained £1.6 million in compensation for a man left with bowel, bladder and sexual dysfunction after delayed treatment of the condition.
Steven has specialised in the field of clinical negligence since qualifying as a solicitor in 2008. Hailing from Gateshead, Steven completed a Law Degree at Manchester University and the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at the College of Law, Chester. He is a member of the training group for the British Association of Brain Injury and Complex Case Management and a supporter of Bobath Centre for Children with Cerebral Palsy and has delivered seminars to both organisations.
