Deborah Antonio

Solicitor Manchester Family

Debbie joined JMW in 2019 in order to pursue a career in Family Law, and a particular interest in cases involving children – from the building of families through assisted reproduction, surrogacy and co-parenting, through to arrangements following separation, relocation and the international movement of children.  Prior to qualification, Debbie acquired experience in public law (childcare) matters, and is able to help parents navigate issues from conception to day-to-day arrangements and serious welfare concerns.  Debbie has growing experience in international issues and child abduction, together with the legal and emotional complexities such cases raise.

Debbie has helped parents resolve a wide range of issues, both with and without the assistance of the court, including:

  • Legal parenthood and parental responsibility in cases of assisted conception, sperm donation and surrogacy;
  • Disputes over holidays;
  • Disputes over contact;
  • Applications for relocation;
  • Allegations of emotional abuse, including coercive and controlling behaviour;
  • Allegations of physical and sexual abuse towards both parents and children;

Debbie also has significant insight into the particular challenges faced by parents who are required to work away, along with the additional challenges and considerations faced by those in the sports and entertainment industries, and offers a creative approach to the logistical issues busy and international families can face.

Although Debbie works predominantly within the Children & Fertility Law team, she also frequently undertakes divorce and financial remedy work, helping clients to bring their marriage to an end in the most constructive way possible.

Debbie is regularly praised by clients for her calm, reassuring and supportive manner and for putting them at ease even during “dreaded” hearings.  Although Debbie has assisted numerous high profile individuals, her passion lies in helping clients from all walks of life navigate the challenges posed by family breakdown and to find a positive resolution for them and their children.

Alongside her work in Family Law, Debbie also assists the Barndoor team, helping athletes find new projects and businesses.

Outside of work, Debbie is a busy mother of three children, and enjoys reading and travelling
