Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) Data Leak
Personal information belonging to MPs' staff has been disclosed online in a 'serious data breach'.
On 30th March 2017, MPs’ staff names, salaries and expenses were erroneously posted online by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA).
This serious incident has, understandably, raised huge concerns among those whose details were made available online. The implications are that people could be exposed to identity fraud, the illegal sale and misuse of their information, and other related problems such as media discussion of their personal information.
JMW is on hand to support victims of the data leak who have been informed of the breach by IPSA.
What are the risks of the leak?
Private information and personal data has been disclosed without permission.Clearly, individuals whose details have been leaked could be at risk of identity theft and online fraud. They may have received unwanted attention as a result of personal information being placed within the public domain.
Can you make a legal claim?
Have you received written notification that your information was posted?Have you suffered any upset or distress as a result of the leak?Subject to the circumstances of your case, you may have a legal claim for compensation and other legal remedies.
Is there an upfront cost?
No. In the case of serious data leak incidents, JMW will look at 'No Win, No Fee' arrangements and consider other funding options.
JMW deal with data leak cases on a day to day basis. We have been involved in many high profile data privacy cases and helped victims of data leaks to recover substantial damages and secure other legal remedies. For example, JMW are currently acting on behalf of over 5500 past and present employees of the retailer Morrisons whose data was stolen by a former colleague (and who was later jailed for the crime).
