Cathy joined JMW’s Intellectual Property and Commercial London team in September 2026 as a Senior Trade Mark Attorney. Cathy qualified as a Registered Trade Mark Attorney in 1995 following a Natural Sciences degree at Cambridge University and has since picked up further qualifications in EU Competition law, Intellectual Property Litigation and Wines, Beers & Sprits.
Cathy has handled work for a huge variety of clients throughout her career, from household names through to mid-sized companies and sole traders. In the last 15 years, Cathy has tended to specialise in contentious matters – oppositions, cancellations and related settlement negotiations, but also knows her way around the trade mark filing systems of most countries in the world.
Registered trade mark attorneys have their own industry body, the Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys and Cathy serves on their AI and Technology Committee and Events Steering Group. Cathy is really interested in the use and abuse of AI in the legal field and is pleased to be supporting the trade mark profession in their responsible adoption of AI tools.
