Martin has experience of a range of financial products and transaction structures, in both the UK and international markets. He has worked in both private practice and in house roles, as well as the government legal. This gives him a unique experience on both borrower and lender side work, ensuring advice is commercial and practical.
Martin provides regular advice on:
- template reviews and template restructures for bridging lenders;
- real estate finance, with a focus on hotel acquisitions and refinancing;
- corporate acquisition finance and restructuring;
- portfolio review and securitisation.
Transactions include:
- Advising a private equity firm on the multistage restructure of their term, revolving and loan note debt in a multinational workforce and recruitment company.
- Advising a hotel specialist client on the acquisition of properties in central London and Dublin, for development into premium hotels.
- Advising on the restructure of an international group of companies, requiring the management of multiple financial institutions.
- Advising a talent recruitment company on the financing of their acquisitions.
Martin regularly advises banks on bespoke documentation to address issues which cannot be addressed by their volume documentation and products.
Martin trained and qualified at Squire Patton Boggs LLP, where he worked for 7 years. He subsequently joined Barclays Bank PLC as senior inhouse counsel for 7 years. Prior to joining JMW, Martin was an employee of the Government Legal Department advising on, amongst other things, the Government’s student loan portfolio and products.
Martin graduated from Brunel University, with a 2:1 in Business and Finance Law.
