Milly joined JMW in November 2024 as a Solicitor in the Business Crime and Regulatory Department in the London Office, working in the police misconduct team.

Experience

Milly has over 7 years’ experience working on a wide range of criminal law matters and has defended the full spectrum of criminal offences including drug offences and organised crime, serious violence and homicide, sexual offences, and firearms offences. Milly has represented clients at the Police Station and during any pre-charge engagement, the Youth Court, the Magistrates’ Court, and the Crown Court.

Milly’s notable criminal cases include:

  • R v KC – successfully defended client charged with murder and Section 18 wounding with intent. Various defence experts were instructed and defence enquiries carried out to assist with client’s defence, which led him to be acquitted of all charges.
  • R v PO – the client faced multiple charges including several frauds relating to his alleged conduct as a company director. The Insolvency Service ultimately offered no evidence in relation to all charges following the submission of  a written abuse of process argument regarding the unfairness of the proceedings.
  • R v BS – secured community order for client charged with conspiracy to steal over £3million worth of high value motor vehicles, following the submission of a detailed basis of plea and supporting expert evidence.
  • R v JR – successfully defended client charged with Section 18 GBH. The case was subject to national media interest.

Milly is passionate about ensuring that her clients feel supported throughout the proceedings and prides herself on her client care. Her attention to detail, calm professionalism, and sensitivity are regularly commented on by both clients and counsel. Milly is adept at getting to grips with complex fact patterns, and she will conduct extensive defence enquiries with the use of defence experts where necessary.

Milly’s vast experience in criminal law has provided her with the skills and knowledge needed for her transition to Business Crime and Regulatory Law.

Background

Prior to joining JMW, Milly graduated from the University of Southampton with a first-class undergraduate degree in psychology and criminology. Milly then completed the Graduate Diploma in Law including undertaking an independent research project on corporate manslaughter, and the Legal Practice Course. Milly has worked exclusively in busy criminal defence firms since she graduated.
