Sophia Vargas-Sanchez

Solicitor

Sophia is a Solicitor in JMW's Business Crime and Regulatory team having joined in June 2026.

Sophia has experience representing individuals at all stages of criminal proceedings, from pre-charge engagement with the Police, Magistrates' and Crown Court representation, to post-conviction processes such as confiscation under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) and breach of court orders. She is well-versed in advocacy before the Magistrates' Court; experience which enhances the advice she provides to clients from the earliest stages of an investigation and throughout proceedings.

Sophia has successfully resolved investigations during the pre-charge phase through carefully drafted written submission to the police resulting in no further action being taken. Clients have commented on Sophia’s “compassion, reassurance, professionalism and unwavering support” while fighting tirelessly for the best outcome possible.

Sophia has represented those investigated for or charged with complex fraud offences, and money laundering, serious violence, sexual offences and motoring offences. This includes investigations and prosecutions brought by the CPS, Insolvency Service, HMRC and other enforcement bodies.

Alongside her criminal practice, Sophia is increasingly practising in international crime and extradition. Sophia is a fluent Spanish speaker, and this means she can provide a seamless service to Spanish speaking clients charged in the UK or facing extradition to the UK from abroad.

Prior to joining JMW, Sophia graduated from UCL having studied Law. She went on to pass her Solicitor's Qualifying Exams (SQE) and was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in 2025.
