JMW’s Risk & Compliance department are seeking to appoint a Risk & Compliance Manager to support the COLP and Risk & Compliance Director through management of the compliance analysts and being the first port of call for the majority of queries.

The ideal candidate will have a background in providing generalist risk & compliance advice within legal services (a minimum of 4 years’ relevant experience) and previous experience of line management. 

This is a newly created role within the Risk & Compliance department which continues to grow and develop the function to best support the business following a period of expansion. JMW is a Top 100 full-service law firm with offices in Manchester, Liverpool and London.

The role will primarily be based in our Manchester head office, with occasional travel to our London and Liverpool offices as required.

Hybrid working options are available. 

Responsibilities:

  • Management of the compliance mailbox, which involves supervision of the compliance analysts (currently a team of 3, which is likely to grow with the firm) and ensuring queries are handled effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Overall responsibility for the file review and audit process.
  • Dealing with ad hoc queries on all aspects of risk and compliance. 
  • Working with the Solution Delivery team to design, implement, and test the effectiveness of risk and compliance processes, such as client and matter risk assessments.
  • Reviewing agreements to ensure they comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintaining core documents such as compliance plan, risk register and practice area risk assessments, and turning them into living documents.
  • Responsibility for a number of key policies and procedures, as set out in the team’s division of responsibilities.
  • Preparing and delivering training on risk and compliance issues.
  • Experience / an appreciation of the complaints handling process would be desirable, to support the Risk & Compliance Director with supervision of the complaints handler.
