JMW raises £2,469 for charity partner Rainbow Hub through nerve-wracking Liverpool Cathedral abseil

I recently decided to take the plunge (literally) by taking part in a 150ft abseil down Liverpool Anglican Cathedral on behalf of one of our chosen charities, Rainbow Hub.

Rainbow Hub provide therapeutic services for children and young people with disabilities as a result of a neurological condition or brain injury.

A number of my JMW colleagues also took part in the abseil, including Macaila Hannaford (IT), Caitlin Restall (family), Amira El Assaad (Court of Protection), and Nosheen Akhtar (real estate finance). Unfortunately, Sion Richards (Court of Protection) was unable to take part on the day but contributed to our fundraising efforts. Collectively we raised an impressive £2,469 for the charity - many thanks to everyone who has donated.

Despite not being afraid of heights (or so I thought), the nerves kicked in as I made my way up what felt like 1000 steps in order to complete the abseil. However, as soon as I lowered myself down over the edge of the cathedral, I felt a huge sense of pride and exhilaration whilst taking in the spectacular views over Liverpool. This was made even more memorable by being greeted at the bottom by Rainbow Hub representative, Emma Parish, who expressed her gratitude for all of our fundraising efforts.

Since 2001, Rainbow Hub have supported up to as many as 85 families per week, helping children to reach their full potential and gain more independence through fun, hands-on activities, while giving their parents the vital support they deserve.

In a complete contrast to NHS services, Rainbow Hub's purpose-built site offers a picturesque country escape with a unique family first approach. It is safe, friendly, free of charge to families and accessible to all.

Unfortunately, like many events over the last year, the abseil was initially postponed as a result of the pandemic. So when the opportunity came around this year, I immediately put my interest forward.

The clinical negligence department at JMW have been heavily involved with Rainbow Hub for many years. This charity is especially close to our hearts given that a number our clients have sustained brain injuries at birth as a result of negligent medical care. Therefore, I was keen to get involved and push myself out of my comfort zone to raise money for such a wonderful cause.

Rainbow Hub do not receive any government, statutory or public sector funding and rely solely on the generosity of the local community, businesses, grant funding and Rainbow Hub families. Given the difficulties faced by the pandemic in terms of fundraising, I felt that it was especially important to get involved now more than ever.

Upcoming fundraising events in 2022 include a sponsored sky dive and Run for Rainbow. If you would like to donate or for more information on Rainbow Hub and the services they provide please see the links below.
