Senior Associate Manchester Business Crime & Regulation
Chris works with matters encompassing all aspects of criminal law and police misconduct investigations together with the preparation of cases before the Magistrates’ Courts, Crown Courts and Police Misconduct proceedings.
Chris has experience with the full range of criminal allegations including road traffic offences, public order matters, serious assaults, sexual offences, fraud and theft, drug offences, offences against public justice, misconduct in a public office and murder/manslaughter.
His astute and tactical approach focuses on reducing the prospect of an investigation progressing to proceedings, whether criminal or disciplinary. In the event that cases progress to proceedings, Chris’ diligent approach and advice place clients in a strong position, which is duly recognised by his Legal 500 listing.
Chris has experience advising Police Officers involved in the aftermath of deaths in custody, pursuits resulting in a serious injury or fatality, use of non-lethal weapons, police dogs and police shootings.
He qualified as a Solicitor in 2008, thereafter becoming a Magistrates Court and Police Station Duty Solicitor having passed the Criminal Litigation Accreditation Scheme (CLAS) in 2010.
Chris joined JMW in 2019 having spent seven years working as a Criminal Defence Solicitor at high street firms and four years at a leading national practice, where he was latterly a Principal Lawyer in the Criminal and Police Misconduct team.
Chris has qualified as a Solicitor-Advocate having passed the Higher Rights of Audience assessment. Chris now represent clients before the Crown Court alongside and against Barristers and other Solicitor-Advocates.
He is a member of the Association of Regulatory and Disciplinary Lawyers (ARDL), Law Society Criminal Litigation Accreditation Scheme (CLAS) and Solicitors' Association of Higher Courts Advocates (SAHCA).
