Joe experienced pain and swelling in his testicles, however a delay is diagnosing testicular torsion meant Joe's left testicle had to be removed.

Danisha Jackson took on the case and was able to secure £29,000 which Joe will use towards therapy to help him with the psychological injuries resulting from the medical negligence.

What happened

Joe attended A&E as he was experiencing sudden extreme pain in his testicles and had severe abdominal pain.

An ultrasound was completed and it was noted that there was decreased blood flow to his left testis which is indicative of testicular torsion. However, the consultant advised Joe that it was likely an infection, so prescribed him strong pain killers and sent him home.

They advised Joe to come back if the pain did not improve in 6 hours time.

Diagnosed too late

Initially the pain killers dulled the pain, but over the next few days the pain worsened, so Joe returned to the same hospital.

A further scan confirmed testicular torsion but because Joe had been diagnosed too late the only option was to remove the left testicle.

Joe has been left with associated scarring and change in appearance, which he feels embarrassed and self-consciousness about.  He also suffered from an exacerbation of anxiety and depression.

JMW’s investigation

Joe contacted JMW as he was concerned that he should have been referred for further examination to diagnose testicular torsion and that he would not have had to undergo removal surgery had the diagnosis been made sooner.

Clinical negligence solicitor, Danisha Jackson, took on the case and was able to establish that had Joe been referred for emergency scrotal exploration within two hours following the first ultrasound scan he would have been diagnosed with testicular torsion and been transferred to theatre, where his left testis would have been salvaged.

Settlement secured

Danisha was able to secure a settlement of £29,000 which will help Joe with psychological therapy and allows for costs in relation to a testicular prosthesis should this be something he wishes to obtain in the future.
