Cryptocurrency Money Laundering – Acquitted at Trial

Background

Hojol Uddin, Jack Murphy and Elisha Kaur were instructed, in January 2025, to represent Mr A who was charged with the offence of entering into or becoming concerned in a money laundering arrangement. The value of the attempted fraud was, as the Crown suggested, in excess of £140,000.

How JMW helped

Upon careful forensic examination of the Crown’s evidence, those instructed identified that the payment allegedly received by Mr A was only £80 and applications were made to exclude any evidence suggestive of an unfunded lavish lifestyle. Furthermore, those instructed ensured to review all evidence surrounding the cryptocurrency itself and how it could be attributed the Defendant in the absence of any identification documents.

Following a six-day Trial at Bristol Crown Court, the jury acquitted Mr A – the only defendant to be cleared of allegations in respect of these proceedings.
